My Finished Cross Stitch Projects

Title: Greatest Gift Designer: Phyllis Kiger Manufacturer: The Creative Circle Year: 1984 Size: 7 1/2" x 10 1/4" Stitches Used: Cross Stitch, Back Stitch, French Knot Finished: August 2006 Hangs: In our bedroom Back Story: This one took me a week or two. This was the first time I'd worked extensively with metallic thread (on the wheat). Not fun. However, what a beautiful effect it achieved! I love the frame, which came with the kit. It's heavy brass-colored base metal. Very lovely.

Title: Hummingbird Switch Plate Designer: Karen Paul Manufacturer: The Creative Circle Year: 1989 Size: 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" Stitches Used: Cross Stitch, Back Stitch, French Knot, Three-Quarter Stitch Finished: September 2, 2006 Hangs: In our bedroom Back Story: Anyone that has any experience with The Creative Circle kits knows there's more than one design shown on the cover, but the materials in the kit are for only one design. Since I liked the hummingbird design better than the design the kit was intended for, I scanned, enlarged, and printed out the picture of the hummingbird, using that as my chart. Because hummingbirds are iridescent, I used DMC's "Light Effects" line of thread to stitch the hummingbird. It took me two hours to stitch just the bird itself, since metallic thread can be so difficult to work with. However, given the uniqueness of this piece, I felt it was worth it in the end!

Title: Cow Catch-All (Plastic Bag Keeper) Designer: Lois Dahlin Manufacturer: Fibre-Craft Year: 1997 Size: 14" long; width varies Stitches Used: Cross Stitch, Back Stitch, Running Stitch Finished: November 2006 Hangs: In our kitchen Back Story: This was my very first project using my sewing machine. I made a few mistakes, but I managed to hide them well. The apron turned out fantastic, especially since I can't even sew in a straight line with the machine! The pockets read, respectively, "Bag Ties, Coupons, Clips, Keys, Rubber Bands, Notes, Stamps, Tape." Definitely a cute way to organize things that you'd typically just toss into an ugly "junk drawer"!

Title: Dieting Designer: Lois Winston Manufacturer: The New Berlin Company Year: 1987 Size: 3 3/4" x 2 7/8" (not including lace) Stitches Used: Cross Stitch, Back Stitch, French Knots Finished: November 2006 Hangs: On our refrigerator (naturally!) Back Story: This cute little piece only took me a day and was so much fun to stitch. It was supposed to have beads, but my cats stole them and probably hid them under our 50-ton couch, so I'll have to find them someday and update this picture. Nonetheless, it's not noticeable at all, the lace turned out perfectly, and I love the saying. It's very unique, as most of my projects are. I love the pig's smiling face!

Title: Kat O' Plenty Designer: Linda Conners Manufacturer: Calico Crossroads Year: 2006 Size: 4" x 4" Stitches Used: Cross Stitch, Back Stitch, French Knots, Three-Quarter Stitch Finished: November 2006 Hangs: By our front door Back Story: This adorable black kitty is part of my new favorite series: Mini-Kats By Kelly. It took me a couple of days and came out very cute. He looks like me after the holidays -- stuffed and sleepy!

Title: In The Bag Designer: Linda Conners Manufacturer: Calico Crossroads Year: 2006 Size: 4" x 4" Stitches Used: Cross Stitch, Back Stitch, French Knots, Three-Quarter Stitch Finished: December 2006 Hangs: By our front door Back Story: The last in the 2006 Mini-Kats by Kelly series, but only the third one that I've finished (not counting the full-size one I did in early 2006). Isn't he cute?

Title: Wedding Sampler Designer: ? Manufacturer: NeedleMagic, Inc. Year: ? Size: 5" x 7" Stitches Used: Cross Stitch, Back Stitch, French Knots Finished: December 10, 2006 Hangs: By our front door Back Story: This is my first wedding sampler and probably one of the prettiest designs I've done. It took about three days and thankfully did not include any three-quarter stitches, which definitely makes the work faster. What a lovely way to make sure my fiancé never forgets our anniversary! ;-)
